Celebrate the Fireworks Blooming in Your Garden

Let’s celebrate! Not only is it summertime, it’s coming up on July 4th, our Independence Day, and we typically have picnics and barbecues with our families, waiting for darkening skies when we can oohhh and aahhh at the tremendous fireworks.
But Mother Nature doesn’t wait for a particular night to send out the sparkly blooms. They’re happening all summer all around us…
Bee balm flowers
Bee balm flowers are brilliant additions to summer herb gardens and flower borders. Butterflies, hummingbirds, bees, and other nectar-seeking creatures covet the “exploding” tubular flowers on the plant’s rounded flower heads, and the leaves and flowers can also be made into tea.
Alliums
Alliums are actually part of the same family of plants as onions, scallions, leeks and garlic. Many are ornamental, and when they grow, the flowers emerge looking like fireworks exploding in the night sky. They come in a variety of colors including blue, red, white, purple and yellow.
Aster Flowers
Aster flowers are named from the Greek word meaning “star,” so they’re already ahead in the “fireworks” category. You can find a whole palette of colors in this family of flowers and when they bloom, it will make you think of sky sparklers.
Gomphrena
Gomphrena flowers quickly grow to form dense, landscape beauties, eventually reaching up to three to four feet tall and one to two feet wide. Tons of strong, tall stems are topped with exploding bursts of large one-inch blooms in hot pink tipped with bright yellow. Definitely a showstopper in the garden!
So, if you don’t want to deal with the crowds to see the fireworks display this year, why not simply lay down in your garden and see what Mother Nature is blasting out? Sure, it’s a bit quieter, but the colors are just as oohhh and aahhh worthy.
Love, Anderson’s.
